Chances are you’re more likely to need pruning shears than growth formula for your messages. Learn to master the art of writing only necessary words. Drop all small words (a, an, the) as long as you maintain the clarity of your message. Paring down your messages too much creates confusion, though, so you may need to break out your Thesaurus and hunt for shorter synonyms of key words to keep the integrity of your message intact.

Step One – Create a Twitter Account
This seems like a very simple step (and it is) but without a Twitter account, there is no way to be able to connect with people in the Twitter world. Step Two – Add Followers
Now that your Twitter account has been setup along with your completed profile, you need to begin adding followers. How is this done? In your Twitter account, click on Find People. In the search box for Find on Twitter, enter a search term for the type of people you are searching for. As an example, if you are targeting “home based business,” then enter that in the search box and click Submit. You will be presented with a list of people that have something related to home based business in their profile and you can now begin clicking on the icon with the plus sign next to the person. After clicking this icon you will see a green check with the word “Following” display. You are now following this person. Some tips when adding followers:
- Look for people who have a picture instead of just a generic icon. People who have taken time to put up their picture are going to be more likely candidates for your time
- If you are beginning this process with no followers, you want to add up to 150 followers per day. Otherwise Twitter may suspend your account if you become more aggressive than this.
- If you already have 5000+ followers, then you can add up to 300 – 400 followers per day.
- You want to do this on a daily basis and using tools like Socialoomph can help manage clearing out people who do not follow you back.

Step Three – Send Tweets
As you grow your followers, you want to begin building a relationship with them. You do this by sending out messages or tweets. Keep in mind that if you are using Twitter to market your product/service…ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS lead any message you send out with value. Do not bombard your followers just with marketing messages of buy this or buy that. Not that you do not want to send out messages containing ads because you do if you plan to make any money but do not make that your sole purpose. Some suggestions to make this effective:
- Send out between 10 – 15 tweets per day (can be automated with tools such as Socialoomph)
- A good ratio of ads to tweets of value is send 1 ad for every 3 tweets of value
- Some ideas to use to find valuable information to send to your followers:

* Articles (can search places like ezinearticles.com for content)

* Videos (can search youtube)

* Quotes

* Blog posts
- As you continue to build your followership and providing value, you will begin to build your own articles, videos, etc. so start sending links to your work in the messages you send out
